New Year, New Experiences

By Alexa Savka on January 9, 2018

As the New Year begins, with it comes an air of excitement, fresh starts and new beginnings. What better way to enhance your list of plans and goals than to seek out new experiences that exist right outside your own front door. January in Kansas City, Kansas brings about several fun activities that you probably haven’t considered or possibly even been aware of until now.  I urge you to broaden your horizons and clear a little space in your calendar to take advantage of these great local events happening this month.

Fall in Kansas City always holds a lot of significance for me. A change of pace, change of wardrobe, and crisp, beautiful weather that seems to have a funny way of inducing the most pleasant nostalgia. It is my favorite time of year to get out and explore what the city has to offer. While I’m always interested in checking out a tasty new restaurant or a trendy boutique, there are a few activities that I have adopted as required fall traditions.

Hey, I can fly. Let me explain… I can fly with the help of a zip line, a few D-rings, and some great tour guides. But in the pictures, it looks like I can fly!

I recently visited Zip KC - a zip line course that sends you flying through the forest at speeds up to 60 miles per hour! I had never been zip lining before so I wasn’t sure what to expect - maybe I’d hit a tree, maybe I’d drop my camera, maybe a tree would drop my camera (anything is possible), but luckily none of that happened and I had an amazing time!

I’ve always considered myself to be an adventurous person, willing to try (almost) anything once. I believe that life is just too short to miss out on the endless new experiences that exist just outside of our front door. With that being said, I do have my limits. I have always been absolutely terrified of heights.

Think about the fastest you’ve ever driven your car. For most people, myself included, the fastest they’ve topped out at is 100 MPH. But even then, did you really go 100 MPH??? Did you really see the street signs whizzing past your window? Did you really feel like you had control of your vehicle? Maybe you did, I’ll have to take your word for it.

Another year has come and gone. The holiday season in full force, which means your mind is filled to the brim with thoughts of gift wrapping, family parties and "Jingle Bell Rock" playing over and over and over. With all this hustle and bustle you probably are nowhere near thinking about what you’ll do to welcome in 2017. Don’t sweat your plans on how to make this year the greatest one yet. Kick back with your cup of hot cocoa or mulled wine and check out the exciting plans Kansas City, KS has

Let me start off by saying, I wait all year long for Halloween. Very few things make me as giddy as the thought of cool, dark nights, creative costumes and the scares, oh the scares. I crave a good scare. Heights? Child’s play. Gory horror films? Bring it on! Clowns? Eh, I may sweat, but I can handle clowns. So when I heard 3rd Street Asylum, a haunted house in Bonner Springs, KS, was opening early for one night only, I knew I had to jump at the chance to get my Halloween fix.

The time has come again to put away the pool toys and begin thinking about early mornings, packing school lunches, and the moans and groans that come along with homework. While not everyone looks forward to going back to school, preparation doesn’t have to be hectic. In fact, you can make it fun! With summer coming to an end, make the most of your precious time with a weekend back-to-school shopping trip to Kansas City, KS!
