First, we would like to shout out some notable Kansas City, Kansas Mothers and their stories.
Laura Summa, a proud KCK native, who is passionate about her hometown, her beautiful family, design, creativity, art, old architecture, hard work, big dreams and engaging with interesting people. In 2013, alongside her husband Wes, they took a bold step, acquiring their beloved bar, Chicago's, where Laura was once a bartender. As the owner, Laura has crafted a special space for the community, celebrating nearly 1 year of memories and blessings, with hopes for many more ahead.
Shai Perry is a black bi-racial woman, artist, mother, and curator. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from East Tennessee State University, where she studied sculpture and cultural anthropology. She is currently the Gallery Coordinator for Kansas City Kansas Community College, where she has the pleasure to advise student organizations, curate the Art Gallery, facilitate the campus collection, and manage artistic visions for public spaces. She is also working on a Master's in Arts Management and Leadership at Wichita State University. Perry’s research in anthropology heavily influenced her career. She has recently also been appointed to fill the position of At Large Representative for the Kansas Museums Association Board of Directors.
Marlen Hernandez is a Director of Hunger Relief at Cross-Lines Community Outreach, Argentine MS Alumni and Proud Wyandotte High School Bulldog Class of 2005. She oversees the operations of their two hunger-related programs, Cross-Lines Community Kitchen, that serves hot breakfast and lunch, Monday-Friday, to anyone that walks in their doors doors & the Cross-Lines Community Market which is a dignified pantry experience. This Pantry provides a grocery-store like experience where shoppers can choose the foods most appropriate for their household.
Chef Annie is a Chef and Owner at Tao Tao. Chef Annie opened her Chinese restaurant over 50 years ago and has been a stable in Kansas City, KS for decades. Bringing kindness and full stomachs to the community, leaving her mark in our hearts.

Chicago's is a dive bar on Central Ave, known for its environment and drinks, Chicago's is a great option for any evening. It is great option for a laid-back, neighborhood bar experience and offers safe, affordable, and tasty fun for those who want to take the edge off. Rowe Ridge Vineyard & Winery
