Visit Kansas City Kansas partners with All American Catfish Tournaments to host five competitions at Kaw Point this year

Family-friendly catfish tournaments return to Kansas City, Kansas for fourth consecutive year, generating an estimated economic impact of over $500,000

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (March 29, 2021) – For the fourth consecutive year, Visit Kansas City Kansas and All American Catfish Tournaments ® (AACT) are partnering to bring multiple catfish tournaments to Kaw Point, a 10-acre park at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. Home to some of the largest catfish in the country, Kansas City, Kansas, is quickly becoming a fishing tourism destination.

Visit KCK is excited to partner with AACT to bring tournaments to Kaw Point and really showcase this area of the city and the assets available in KCK to bring in these types of events.  “We anticipate the four catfish tournaments will generate an estimated economic impact of more than $500,000, including lodging, food, gas, and more,” said Alan Carr, Executive Director at Visit Kansas City Kansas.

The first tournament of the 2021 series is Saturday, April 24, and a full schedule of the other Kansas City, Kansas, tournaments is located below. All American Catfish Tournaments are open to new and professional anglers.

KCK native and professional angler, Justin Thornton, has fished the Kansas River his entire life and regularly competes in All American Catfish Tournaments. Returning for the 2021 tournament series, Thornton and his team member, Duane Buckridge, both hold the record for largest weigh-in at any AACT event: 183.5 pounds for five catfish.

AACT Tournament Director and KCK resident, Tim Berger, feels strongly about the community and hosting tournaments in the area. “Offering safe, outdoor events that highlight the Kansas River – an underutilized asset in the community – and allowing families to make lasting memories is our ultimate goal,” Berger said.

According to Berger, the sport of catfishing has seen exponential growth in recent years, leading to a rise in catfishing events all over the country. All American Catfish Tournaments have organized catfishing tournaments throughout Kansas and Missouri with the support of catfishing enthusiasts, sponsors, and communities for the past 4 years.
