KANSAS CITY, Kan.: The KCK BBQ Trail is turning one, and Visit Kansas City Kansas is inviting barbecue lovers to celebrate. Since launching on Sept. 19, 2025, the trail has attracted more than 1,700 pass downloads and generated more than 850 check-ins at barbecue restaurants across Wyandotte County.

Now, Visit Kansas City Kansas is giving trail-goers another reason to celebrate. Those who complete five stops by Sept. 1 will receive an invitation to the Sept. 17 KCK BBQ Trail birthday party and be entered for a chance to win a grand prize package valued at more than $1,000.

The prize includes a Napoleon Freestyle 365 3-Burner Propane Gas Grill, provided by Nebraska Furniture Mart, and a deluxe at-home BBQ kit.

“Barbecue is part of our city’s identity. This trail lets visitors and locals experience that tradition in a fun, memorable way,” said Alan Carr, Executive Director of Visit Kansas City Kansas. 

Launched as a way to showcase Kansas City, Kansas’ barbecue tradition, the KCK BBQ Trail features 12 Wyandotte County barbecue stops and two bonus stops. The free, self-guided trail brings together longtime favorites, neighborhood restaurants and newer pitmasters, giving trail-goers plenty of ways to experience Kansas City-style barbecue.

From ribs and burnt ends to pulled pork and brisket, each stop offers its own take on a tradition that has long been part of the region’s food culture.

Kansas City, Kansas, is a destination for food lovers, and the KCK BBQ Trail offers a flavorful way to experience it. For visitors, the trail can be part of a Kansas City, Kansas, itinerary. For locals, it is a chance to revisit a favorite or discover a new one.

The trail also encourages visitors to spend time in neighborhoods throughout Wyandotte County and support the local businesses behind the food.

The KCK BBQ Trail is free and mobile-friendly.

  • Visit participating stops and check in to earn points and unlock prizes.
