Kansas City, Kansas– July 19, 2013
What: Mayor Mark Holland, Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, along with his colleague, Mayor Sly James, City of Kansas City, Missouri will kick off "Soccer Week in Kansas City" in anticipation of the AT&T Major League Soccer All-Star Game to be played at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas on July 31. Mayor Holland will unveil a 30-foot inflatable replica of the all-star soccer jersey that will be transported to various sites in the region throughout "Soccer Week." The mayors will also announce "Return of the Border Wars: Competition for the Greater Good," a friendly competition between Kansas and Missouri to benefit the entire region.

Why: Kansas City will welcome tens of thousands of soccer fans to Sporting Park on July 31 for the events surrounding the Major League Soccer All-Star game. Community members and families are invited to attend several free events the week prior. In additional to the traveling jersey, Mayor Holland will invite families to attend a "Family Fun Day" celebration and community watch parties in Kansas City, Kansas on game day.
