A City Steeped in Heart and Heritage

Founded officially in the 1870s and named after its Missouri counterpart, KCK has carved its own identity through the dreamers, doers and entrepreneurs who have settled here and called our city home. Kansas City, Kansas is part of Wyandotte County, a regional area within the state of Kansas that also includes Bonner Springs and Edwardsville. While each city has its own character, they work together as one connected community. Geographically, KCK sits at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers and is the third largest city in Kansas.

With no ethnic majority, and more than 65 languages spoken among residents, it naturally stands out as a hub for diversity among the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.

  • Wyandotte County Museum: An all encompassing capture of Wyandotte County's history.
  • Quindaro Ruins & Overlook and Quindaro Underground Railroad Museum: These two sites tell the tale of the the old Quindaro town, once a free port of entry for those traveling on the Underground Railroad.
  • Kaw Point Park: The site where Lewis and Clark camped along their westward expedition. 
  • Wyandott National Burying Ground: The burying site for some of the earliest members of the Wyandot people who were moved here in 1836 during the Indian Removal Act in 1843.
  • The KCK Legacy Trail: A free mobile pass that tells the stories of the people who settled here and paved the way to make KCK what it is today. The Latino Journey and Eastern European Journey are currently live and ready to explore. 

Neighborhoods That Define KCK

Kansas City, KS is made up of five distinct areas, all very different from the next. They are known as:

  • Downtown KCK: Where history meets colorful murals, Kansas City's best dive bar scene, and some of the tastiest tacos around.
  • West KCK: A hotspot for shopping, soccer, baseball, NASCAR racing, and world-class entertainment.
  • Northeast KCK: Home of the most historically significant neighborhoods in Kansas City.

  • Midtown KCK: One of the oldest farm houses in Kansas, and a sprawling park and lake are two sights to see in this mostly residential area.
